In Tanzania agriculture is a backbone of our economy statistics are showing that 70% of the population is engaged in
the sector the higher percent being women. Aside from being a sector with so many people who depends on it for
various purposes economic freedom included there are social, economic, environmental challenges that affect these
women directly such as lack of important skills like marketing, branding and profiling something that’s really
important in modern days.
In reducing the challenges that women face amongst many other TIBA aim at improving their livelihood by
capacitating them with important skills in areas of marketing, financial education, land rights education and
innovation .TIBA is implementing 1 year project entitled kijiwe cha kahawa ‘Promotion of small scale
women vegetable farmers/vendors in urban areas’. The targeted group is 50 women, 25 from Ubungo and
25 in Kinondoni municipal.
TIBA conducted an inception meeting on 7 TH March 2023 from 09:30hours to 13:30hours at Jamirex Hotel
so as to link important stakeholders such as media, government, CSOs and religious leaders .The aim is to
create sustainability of the project with the main actors on the table but also provide a room for them to
share their insight, suggestions and recommendation on the matter, each player has a different role that will
push this project and make an impact to people we want to reach
The group of women we are dealing with is underrated, their stories are not told but the fact is they have
so many successful stories to share TIBA will use media to document, amplify and share their stories to the
community, we are aware that the government works closely with the group that we are targeting that is
why we include them in our interventions so as they can support not only by providing information but also
provide permission for us to execute our activities.
Before the inception meeting TIBA were able to conduct an identification activity to 50 beneficiaries, and
interesting information were produced after the activity whereby TIBA were able to learn more on which
areas they can do more advocacy during the implementation of the project and Results have shown that 74%
of participant has more than 6 years’ experience in their business .About 76% of our target group are small vegetable
vendors and the rest are farmers. More than 30% have more than 4 dependent in their families
One of the focuses is to capacitate our targets with financial literacy and linking them to financial institutions such as
banks, or government loan where they can get loans to enlarge their business one of the interesting findings is that,
about 55.1% are not affiliated with any banks and they put their savings at home.
Most of our beneficiaries are selling their vegetables through door to door model hence they lack stable market that
can increase sustainability of their work, the situations is worse in rainy days, but also they waste a lot of time going
from one door to another and the data are showing that 70% of them do not have stable market as they depend on
individual market rather than big markets or deliveries.
In order to improve their livelihood these women and that of their generation it’s high time to take measures that will
be adopted in the modern world ,we are living in the digital world , different systems have been changing from the
tools that are used to efficiency and performance of the actual work .TIBA aim at introducing digital tool known as
One stop center that will enable them to work , find market , sell their products and connect with their peers via a
phone when it comes to technology and innovation about 88% of the participants they do not use any innovative
ways or tools to improve their business, they depend on Traditional media like TV, and radio to get information that
relates to their business.
Tanzania is one of the African countries that are still in patriarchy system over the years men have been owning
land, women deserve the right to legal education about land ownership and how they can own land to conduct the
activities that will benefit their families TIBA aim at providing land rights education to the beneficiaries because
results are showing that 50% of participants do not own land that is used for production.
TIBA will keep linking the stakeholder of both municipal throughout the project since they have significance
impact and also their recommendation will be used in the implementation so as to bring the impact that is
expected to be delivered to the stakeholders.
