Dear reader, kijiwe cha kahawa is here and this time we have the men from Mwananyamala B who had a lot to say
about parenting and morals especially in this time and age. In African continent parenting is something feminine and a responsibility of a woman .When something goes wrong to a child all the blame goes to women, this is because
when you’re a mother you’re expected to raise your children in a certain way that is acceptable in the community
failure to do that, children are more likely to be influenced with bad behavior and you will be blamed for that.
In recent years women have been striving in different sectors whether science, arts, politics and other
career paths therefore things have changed even from family level the fact is parenting is not a sole
responsible for women alone but to men as well. Now, when something goes wrong in parenting who can
be blamed? Is it men? Women, community, social Medias, western exposure? We want to know what has
made parenting hard than ever before.
Meanwhile our kijiwe reports shows that about 77.8% of our participants are married which makes this discussion
even more applicable because we are talking with an audience which has a front row seat in parenting, most of them
of them have shared their experiences and admitted that parenting has been harder than before due to many factors
but mostly challenges are starting from parents themselves.
Lately, most parents are not ready to take a full responsibility in raising children most of them only provides basic
needs such as paying for school fees, buying them toys and clothes but in reality there are few conversation and
meaningful connection between parents and children .Many cases and media reports are showing that children are
facing a lot of struggles but they hardly share them, this is why there has been generational traumas and pattern of
behaviors with a lot of impacts later in life. Most children have been influenced by external factors and peer pressure
under the watch of parents all this has led to moral decay and complains from community about the reality of
parenting and morals in the new eras.
Hence this is why we can choose who we want to blame in this case, when something goes wrong in parenting we
are blaming parents, both of them included. Because it all starts at home, whether we want to admit it or not but
parents have major role to play in making sure that their children are well groomed .Remember, children are the
future, todays boys are tomorrow dads, they are leaders we’ll have tomorrow so please, let’s play our part in making
sure that we create the better versions of ourselves.
TIBA is engaging men and this was a special discussion that we wanted to experience with you, due to the
fact that we have a responsibility of coming together as a community and keep promoting gender equality
especially to family matters like parenting, we also have to ensure that men are supported with enough
information and resources so as they can fulfill well their responsibilities as leaders, protector and role
models of our community.
