About 54% of women in Africa pursue different careers in so many fields such as health, politics, technology, science, literature, education, security, and some are working in business ventures and entrepreneurship. Tanzania like many other country prioritize the well-being of families which on this case economy holds the major part in ensuring the stability and development individuals and a household in general by ensuring the family access basic needs, social services and other needs depending on the economy level of the family.
In celebrating the international women’s day, TIBA with collaboration with other partners hosted a dialogue with stakeholders from government, private sector and an established local wine- prenuer to discuss about the opportunities available for women including access to loans from the government and investments that can be applied to grow small business to wealth creation.
On the contrary, most participants in the dialogue included small scale women vegetable farmers and vendors, and other local entrepreneur who owns small business, such as salonists, producers of food spices, producers of natural products like soap .All of them are looking for opportunities to expand their markets and reach new customers, they are demanding access to government loans which are currently on suspension but also they are learning from each other while finding new ways to address their challenges.
Women have many roles to fulfill for themselves, their families and community at large, however they still face multiple challenges on daily basis, during the discussion women shared their experiences and how they struggle to achieve financial freedom, some of them have been working for more than 10 years and still they have not seen any tangible results aside from paying bills and other family needs which keeps on taking them back in the same cycle again and again.
Practically, the world is changing fast and women are at the center of those changes, aside the fact that they struggle to achieve wealth and grow their business in a bigger scale, there is still a need for stakeholders from various sectors both government and private to invest in women economy not only financially but also enhancing their skills and honing their knowledge because most of the business are still outdated in terms of systems, operation and management.
Some women lack digital tools that can help them reach new customers in a faster and cheaper means just by posting a single product and description of their work, most of their finances are manual and some of them lack the skills to manage their profits hence they spend more than they earn. At the end of the day this women needs guidance and support, that’s where investments comes in .This is a call to everyone, look at where you are and support a woman who is running a business, advise them on important roots that they can apply to stabilize their business, mentor them or link them to opportunities that will support them in operating their business.
